Zac, tell us a bit about your career background...
I graduated from the University of New England with a Bachelor of Agriculture majoring in Plant Production.
In 2015 I gained a junior agronomist role with a reseller based in Casino, NSW. I looked after Tea Tree, broadacre cropping and pasture, with a key interest in pasture production. I ran ryegrass variety demos and trials in the area.
In 2021, I started with SeedGro, now Agrimix, as their Northern NSW Territory Manager and took the opportunity to open my own consulting business for the Northern Rivers region.
What motivates you?
My alarm in the morning definitely kickstarts the day… However, the driving force for me is working with our farmers and graziers to get the best outcome for them and if I'm lucky, I get a beer out of it too!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Finding that little niggle or problem a grower has been having trouble with and helping them overcome that. I find that to be very satisfying not only for me but the growers as well!
What did you want to be when you were small?
From a young age, I wanted to be an airforce pilot. However, fate had a different path, and I found I had a knack for agriculture and enjoyed studying the science behind plant and animal production.
What's your favourite way to spend a day off?
I am currently studying for my pilot's license, so when I get a spare moment, I am in the books, flying or out on the golf course attempting to play!
